Meet Miss Kate

Katherine “Miss Kate” Collett is the proud Owner and Director of MK Studio School of the Arts, bringing years of dance training, performance, competition, and teaching experience to the studio.

Kate began her own dance journey at Danceworks, where she trained in multiple disciplines and developed a deep passion for the performing arts. Throughout her competitive dance career, she earned numerous 1st- and 2nd-place awards, building not only her skills as a dancer but also her confidence, discipline, and love for the stage. At just 16 years old, Kate earned her first teaching certification in Jazz, marking the beginning of her professional journey as an instructor.

Since then, Kate has dedicated herself to sharing her passion for dance with the next generation. She founded MK Studio in 2018 with a vision of creating a studio where dancers could grow not only as performers, but also as people. Her teaching philosophy is centred around creating a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment where every dancer feels valued, challenged, and supported.

Kate specializes in Jazz, Acro, and Musical Theatre, while also having experience across additional dance disciplines including ballet, lyrical, and tap. She has continued to expand her professional knowledge through through the Canadian Dance Teachers Association.

Under Kate's direction, MK Studio has become known for its award-winning competitive program, small class sizes, strong technique, and commitment to creating a positive studio culture. She believes that every dancer has something unique to offer and that dance should be about more than trophies — it should build confidence, resilience, friendships, creativity, and memories that last a lifetime.

Her passion is simple: to help every dancer discover what they are capable of, find their confidence, and fall in love with the art of dance.

“Dance may begin with movement, but its greatest gift is teaching us who we are.”

“My greatest achievement isn’t the trophies on the shelf, but the confidence I see in a dancer who once doubted herself.”

Meet Miss Emilie

Emilie Lafontaine has been an important part of the MK Studio family since 2018, working alongside Miss Kate to help dancers develop both their technical abilities and confidence.

Another Danceworks alumna, Emilie began her own dance journey as a competitive dancer, following closely behind Miss Kate throughout their years of training. She competed in a variety of dance styles and developed a particular strength and passion for tap, becoming one of her specialties.

Emilie is a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor and brings her knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm into every class she teaches. She believes that creating a positive and supportive environment is just as important as developing strong technique, and she strives to help every dancer feel comfortable, capable, and confident.

Since joining Miss Kate at MK Studio in 2018, Emilie has continued to grow as an instructor while becoming an integral part of the studio's teaching team. Her dedication to her students and genuine love for dance are evident in everything she does.

Together, Miss Kate and Miss Emilie share a strong belief that every dancer deserves to feel valued, supported, respected, and included. They work closely together to ensure dancers of all abilities are encouraged to reach their individual potential and are given the opportunity to thrive both inside and outside the studio.

“The greatest thing we can give a dancer is not perfection, but the confidence to keep trying.”

“Behind every confident dancer is someone who believed in them before they believed in themselves.”
